“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” — 1 Peter 4:8-10
Missions
“…Serve the Lord with gladness”
If communion--done faithfully--is a sharing of ourselves with our neighbors, then community is the result of that sharing... it's a people and place so transformed by God's love that all life flourishes there. Part of what it means to be Christians united in the one Body of Christ is that, as the Church together, we care for our community. Listed below are some of the ways you can get involved with our church's efforts to help our neighbors and our community flourish.

MISSION TRIPS
Featured Effort: Pinwheel Project (Homes of Hope—YWAM)
For five years now, WDMCC has facilitated a Spring fundraising and advocacy effort known as the Pinwheel Project. Through this project, WDMCC partners with a mission-minded organization to 1) raise awareness about a specific need our neighbors have and 2) help address the need in a practical way. For this fifth anniversary year of the Pinwheel Project, we are partnering with Homes of Hope to build a home for a low-income family in Tijuana, Mexico. The impact a home can have on a family is dramatic. Here are three ways to join the impact:

Mission trips provide a unique opportunity for participants to embark on spiritually transformative journeys, both near and far, as we actively participate in God's work to see all creation flourish.
make a meaningful impact on the lives of others while deepening our own connection to the greater purpose of spreading love and hope. Explore the possibilities, discover the joy of serving, and be part of a community that strives to make a difference, one mission trip at a time.

Serve Teams
A Serve Team is a small group of people who commit to being the hands and presence of Jesus together in the ways outlined below. Here’s a look at the current serve teams with brief descriptions of each team’s focus:
Prayer Team: includes opportunities to pray in worship, pray 1-on-1 with people after worship, and/or pray in private over weekly requests & prompts
Worship Prep Team: includes opportunities to prepare Communion, decorate the Sanctuary for worship themes and special events, help with Audio/Visual needs, lead worship parts (e.g. call to worship, announcements, scripture reading, etc.), and/or stock & clean pews
Hospitality Team: includes opportunities to greet worshippers Sunday mornings, staff the visitor kiosk, serve as an ambassador to visitors/external groups
Congregational Care Team: includes opportunities to keep the church connected beyond the church walls by visiting people, sharing Communion, sending cards in the mail, and/or helping with ride sharing as needed
Children’s Development Team: includes opportunities to be a mentor for kids, help facilitate Kids Worship and Friends in Faith programming, lead Children’s Sermon in worship, help prepare & host kids events (e.g. VBS, Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.), develop at-home development opportunities, and/or keep the Nursery clean & tidy
Youth Development Team: includes opportunities to be a mentor for youth, help facilitate WDMCC Youth Activities and Church School, and/or partner with the Youth Justice Initiative
Local Missions Team: includes opportunities to bring WDMCC’s impact into the community by working with partner organizations on recurring mission efforts (e.g. DMARC, New Beginnings Food Closet, Meals from the Heartland, WDM Human Services, Central Iowa Shelter, etc.), organizing & delivering in-kind donations, maintaining the WDMCC medical loan closet, and/or supporting seasonal mission efforts (e.g. Habitat for Humanity, Christmas Angel Tree Project, etc.)
Holy Ground Team: includes opportunities to do groundskeeping (e.g. mow lawn, mulch, plant flowers, clear snow, etc.), tend gardens, work toward Green Chalice certification, and/or set up & tear down for events
The doors are open to everyone of all ages and abilities. Wondering if you need to attend worship at WDMCC or be a member to participate? You don’t! Wondering if you’re too busy to commit? You’re not :) Every Serve Team will offer opportunities to connect and serve together at varying frequencies. So whether you’re looking to participate in a Serve Team’s efforts weekly, a few times per month, or just occasionally when it works for you, we’d love to help get you plugged into an area. Signing up simply means you’ll be made aware of events that pertain to your area of interest. No obligations… just open doors and an invitation to serve where you feel called.
