Keep Dancing! Christ Is Still Risen!

A lamentable truth about Christmas and Easter is we’re pretty good at anticipating these holy days and celebrating them when they come, but the day after Christmas and the day after Easter, the celebration falls off a cliff.  This Easter was so beautiful!  The sanctuary was full of flowers and of hundreds of people dressed in their Easter best, singing and dancing their praises with a little more conviction than usual.  So much life.  So much joy.  The celebration of Easter is a marathon, not a sprint… Easter is really just the beginning.

There’s a non-profit organization called the Children’s Miracle Network that raises money for life-saving treatments and healthcare services for kids at hospitals around the nation.  Their primary way of raising funds is to host what’s known as a Dance Marathon at high schools and on college campuses.  Here’s how it works: youth who participate in their school’s Dance Marathon ask their friends and family to make financial pledges and in return, the participants commit to dance a certain number of hours (up to 24 hours).  The more dancing, the more kids benefit.  The more kids benefit, the more dancing.

Our celebration of Easter needs to work the same way… It’s a marathon, not a sprint.  The celebration doesn’t end the day after Easter.  This side of Christ’s resurrection, EVERY DAY is Easter!  So keep dancing!  The more signs of resurrection we see, the more we need to dance.  And the more we dance, the more this world will look like a new creation.

Keep dancing… Christ is still risen!
